The Story
Lumos started the way most good ideas do – out of frustration.
Amanda had been teaching young learners online for years. She loved her students and enjoyed creating fun lessons for them, but those lessons took time. And once they were taught, they weren’t used again. Eventually she started to look for a curriculum that aligned with her teaching style, but couldn’t find one. And so, the idea of Lumos was started.
A real light bulb moment if you ask her. ;)
Why the name Lumos?
Lumos is both a nod to the Latin language as well as a nod to a series enjoyed by both Amanda and her students - Harry Potter. Lumos means to light or illuminate and we believe that everyone deserves to feel the glow and excitement that comes with learning. Being able to connect and communicate with others in another language is magical, so let Lumos light the way towards this magic.
Meet Henry
Henry is the guide at the center of the Lumos world.
He shows up in each lesson with a positive attitude, ready to learn alongside students. That familiarity is powerful and helps students feel more comfortable in class.
Henry doesn't just make lessons more enjoyable. He makes you look good.
The Lumos Vision
Lumos is more than a lesson library. It's a complete, growing curriculum built to give independent teachers something they rarely have: structure, polish, and a clear path forward for their students.
Every lesson is ready to open and teach. Every unit builds on the last. And as the Lumos world grows with new characters, stories, and levels, your students have the opportunity to grow along with it.
Where We’re Headed
Level 2 units are being worked at present, with a new unit dropping each month. Once complete (12 units, 96 lessons in total), Level 3 units will be created.
If you're joining now, you're able to see Lumos grow and we’re really grateful for that. Founding teachers will help shape Lumos as it evolves.
